Haunting at The Shawnee Inn

This April, The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort will be exploring its haunted past. From time to time guests of the Inn claim they have experienced the unexplainable. Some of the staff of the Inn claim they witnessed the supernatural while on-property.

Our historic property was built in 1911. Prior to that, the Lenape tribe inhabited our land. The Delaware River was a sacred passageway to the Lenape and our land was the most fertile in the region. The river valley provided great bounty for the people.

So much has happened here and over such a long timeline that the depth of history that graced our Shawnee Inn is hard to track.

Many guests have requested to learn more about Shawnee’s history. To be more specific, Shawnee’s haunted past. Our team spent some time trying to figure out how we can accommodate our guest’s desires. We arrived at the conclusion that sharing some of our staff and guest’s most reoccurring experiences is probably the only way to deliver on these requests.

On the weekend of April 3, 2020, The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort will be hosting a Shawnee Haunting package. The package will feature two nights of accommodations, breakfast each morning, dinner Saturday evening, a cocktail hour, numerous activities featuring anecdotal stories, hands-on investigations and more. By the end of the weekend, we hope that your thirst to understand Shawnee’s haunted past is quenched.

Because Dad Deserves a Treat

Father’s Day flyer

On Sunday, June 16th take time out to celebrate Dad. Growing up, my sisters and I practiced the tradition of waking up early to serve our parents breakfast in bed – burnt toast and all! Our tradition did not waiver between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day – we celebrated them both the same. Now as adults, the way in which we celebrate these holidays evolved with us. Breakfast in bed for Mom has transformed into new tomato plants and brunch at her favorite restaurant and Dad now gets treated to a day of golf or fishing. Do you think they miss the burnt toast?

Most of us have lived on our own for decades and with our busy lives, the greatest gift we could give is our time. So how can Shawnee help? We are busy preparing all of our great Father’s Day offerings. From our fabulous $125 Golf & Spa day and a $50 Canoe and Brew Trip to a $50 Steaks and Suds Dinner at The River Room, we know that spending time with Dad is the most important gift anyone could give on this special day.

To book any of these Father’s Day Specials, call 800-SHAWNEE (742-9633).

Food, Music and Folly at the Shawnee Market

The Shawnee Market is open for its third season! The Shawnee Market takes place every Tuesday from 5pm – 8pm outdoors on Shawnee’s Grand Front Lawn. All of the items for sale at the Shawnee Market are hand-made by local suppliers. “Whenever possible, we endeavor to supply our guests and patrons with locally sourced products and ingredients”, said Rob Howell, General Manager of The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort. “The Shawnee Market allows us to showcase the region’s local farmers and goods smiths. We hope that the market is a spring board to including more Pocono-sourced produce and wares into their lives.”

Festivals, Food and Fun at Shawnee Mountain

Article Written on Jun 12, 2012.

Best known for being the premier family-friendly ski mountain in the Poconos, did you know that Shawnee Mountain is also home to exciting summer and fall festivals too? Shawnee Mountain has been hosting new festivals every year ranging from rodeos to lumberjack competitions. Although all of the festivals focus on different themes, there is one constant that ties them all together – great food!!!

The Pocono Wurst Festival is taking place this weekend. Forget about Christmas – I want Oktoberfest in July! Of course, ShawneeCraft Brewing will have taps at the Wurst Festival along with more wieners, kielbasa, pierogies and …… wursts than you can point a finger at! Also featured will be polka music and traditional German dancing.

For the first time ever, Shawnee Mountain will be hosting the Pocono Wing Off benefitting Monroe County Meals on Wheels. This is certainly an event to attend. All of the best restaurants in the Poconos will be flexing their hot sauce muscle –vying for the acclaimed title of “Best Wings in the Poconos”. Each year a new king is crowned, but this is no monarchy – the prestigious honor is voted upon by the audience of wing fanatics! The Pocono Wing Off will take place on August 12.

Welcoming in the new season is Shawnee Mountain’s Garlic Festival. Garlic flavored iced cream anyone? I know you won’t believe me, but its delicious and probably one of the reasons why I can’t wait until the fall. Vampires beware as this festival is no place for fanged friends. However, if you love everything garlic then the Garlic Festival is your place. The Garlic Festival will take place on September 1 and 2.

Although there is barely enough room for all of the fun, Shawnee Mountain has blended two country favorites into one esteemed festival – Shawnee Mountain’s Rodeo and Chili Cook-off. Spend the afternoon watching cowboys wrangle up some excitement as the country’s best take on barnyard animals of different varieties. Afterwards, be the judge of this year’s best chili in the Poconos. The Rodeo and Chili Cook-off will take place September 22 and 23.

Shawnee Mountain’s Autumn Timber Festival features great food and excitement for the whole family. Watch as expert climbers scale wooden poles in a matter of seconds or professional lumberjacks singlehandedly saw through huge tree trunks with surgical precision. The Timber Festival takes place during the height of Shawnee’s foliage and is the perfect event to truly take in the fall season. The Autumn Timber Festival will take place on October 6 and 7.

New to Shawnee Mountain this fall, Art on the Mountain Art Show & Sale will be on Friday, November 16 from 3pm to 8pm and Saturday, November 17 11am to 5pm, and features regional painters, photographers and sculptors. The admission is free.

The Hope Lodge will house twenty-two artists ranging in age from 17 to 84 years old and with styles as different as their ages. The artwork on sale will fit any budget.

EZ-Bumps bar will be open with light refreshments and musical entertainment.

Come join us for a casual and fun look at some of the area’s most talented artists!
