5 Reasons to Stay at Resorts Near Bushkill Falls

In the uplands of the Poconos Mountains, just a quick twenty minute trip from the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort, is Bushkill Falls, a privately-operated national attraction. The “Niagara of Pennsylvania,” Bushkill Falls is among the Keystone State’s most famous scenic attractions. This unique series of eight waterfalls, nestled deep in the wooded Pocono Mountains, is accessible through a network of hiking trails and bridges which afford fabulous views of the falls and the surrounding forest.

Bushkill Falls can accommodate both casual and experienced hikers. With easier trails for casual explorers and more intense trails for experienced trekkers. The main event is, of course, the falls themselves: a one-hundred foot drop that sends the crystal clear water of Bushkill Creek cascading down to another seventy-foot waterfall.

Bushkill Falls is open seasonal April through Mid-November, and offers a picnic area, gift shop, boating and fishing opportunities. No wonder it is such a popular attraction, but why choose to stay at resorts near Bushkill Falls? We listed five simple reasons below.

Your Choice of Specific Accommodations

Your standard hotel, might be able to offer you a room with one bed or two. However, at a resort like Shawnee, we can also offer you a private cottage, a glamping Poconos experience, or a place with a full kitchen and living room. You can check out all of Shawnee’s accommodations here.

On-Site Dining

Unlike a standard hotel, a resort offers on-site dining. At Shawnee, we have a bakery & café, a tavern, a restaurant, and our own brewery! You can roll out of bed and be down for breakfast in less than 5 minutes! We won’t even care if you’re still in your jammies! View hours and menus for our restaurants here.

Activities and Events

Resorts are known for their activities and events. At Shawnee we have a whole recreation team dedicated to making sure our guests have a great time. Offering things like guided hikes, outdoor archery, nature tours, golf cart tours, yoga, axe throwing, guided painting, and nightly campfires with s’mores! Our resort guide is a great resource in planning your daily itinerary. Check out our resort guide and recreation opportunities here.

We have free concerts every Tuesday by local musicians, and live entertainment in our taproom and beer garden every Thursday through Sunday. You can find the full line-up of entertainers on our event calendar.

Shawnee is close to many popular hiking trails, and our guided hikes are one of our most popular activities amongst guests.  To learn more about the best hikes in the Poconos as well as receive expert tips from our local guides, check out our hiking guide!

The Pool

Plain and simple…the pool. Shawnee’s pool is indoors and heated, making its availability year round. Shawnee also has a hot tub that you can soak in, maybe after that hike around the falls. Or perhaps you want to cool off in the River. Staying at Shawnee leaves you just steps away from the beautiful Delaware River.

The Location

Shawnee is so lucky to be in close proximity to many local attractions, such as Bushkill Falls, The Crossings Premium Outlets, Downtown Stroudsburg, multiple wineries and breweries, and the Delaware Water Gap Natural Recreation Area. But that’s not all, Shawnee is surrounded by the beauty of nature. The majestic mountains, the gently moving Delaware River, and the lush greenery that comes with it. Guests and staff all love the scenery that surrounds our historic resort.

Bonus Reason

This may not apply to every resort near Bushkill Falls, but Shawnee also has a championship Poconos golf course, a full service Spa and Salon, a fitness room, a business center, and offers several different River Trips (seasonally).

So if you’re ready to visit, consider staying with a resort near Bushkill Falls.

Best Time to Visit the Poconos

The best time to visit the Poconos largely depends on your vacation preferences, as each season holds its own unique possibilities. Some say the warmer days of summer is the optimal time to visit. Others say the Poconos’ stunning autumn colors warrant a fall trip and the winter skiing is second-to-none.

Rest assured, no matter the time you visit, this picturesque Pennsylvania destination offers a remarkable range of activities and attractions all year long.

See what each of the four seasons has to offer and find the best time to visit the Poconos below!

Visiting the Poconos in Spring

Poconos golf course at the Shawnee Inn.

Folks visiting the Poconos in spring can expect average temperatures between 40 and 66 degrees. This is the rainiest season in the Poconos area, but only averages 8-11 rain days per month in March, April, and May.

The mild temperatures make spring an ideal time for golf in the Poconos. On the grounds of The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort, the Shawnee Island Course hosts 27 holes with no distractions from the outside world. Play the same Poconos golf course as legends Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Lawson Little, and more!

The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort is in the perfect location for a spring Pocono wine tour. Located nearby some of the top Poconos wine tours, like the Blue Ridge Estate Winery, Tolino Vineyards, Renegade Winery, Eagle’s Rest Cellars, and other popular spots, a stay at Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort puts you within minutes of the top wine tours in the Poconos

Visiting the Poconos in Summer

Delaware River Raft at Shawnee Inn in the Poconos.

Visiting the Poconos in summer? Expect daytime temperatures in the mid-70s, with cool nights that encourage bringing a cozy blanket to the campfire. In June, July, and August, the Poconos average about 9 rain days per month.

The Shawnee Inn is the only hiking outfitter in the Poconos that offers group and private guided hikes in the beautiful recreation areas and Appalachian Trail nearby, making it an ideal landing place for a summer hiking trip to the Poconos. Guests at The Shawnee Inn receive complimentary access to daily guided group hikes – check out the inn’s Poconos Hiking page for more information.

The best way to experience the warm summer weather in the Poconos is out on the water – The Shawnee Inn’s Kayaking and River Trips let you glide through the Delaware River among the area’s exotic flora and fauna. Choose to paddleboard, canoe, or kayak to get your heart pumping, or focus less on rowing and more on relaxing on a Shawnee River Boat Tour pontoon.

Glamping at Shawnee

Summer is a great time to take advantage of The Shawnee Inn’s riverside Poconos glamping tents, including their brand new stargazing tents that let you watch the night sky from the comfort of your tent. Glamping tents at The Shawnee Inn include personal AC units, high speed internet, electricity to charge your devices, and comfortable queen sized beds to complement the rustic outdoor amenities like firepits, private wooden decks, and s’mores materials.

Visiting the Poconos in Fall

People in beer garden around fire pit

A fall trip to the Poconos treats vacationers to temperatures from the low 70s to mid-40s, and fewer rain days than the other three seasons. Fall foliage is in full swing, lighting up the landscape in shades of orange, red, and gold.

Enjoy the crisp air on a Pocono Mountains fall foliage hike in the three distinct color zones that give you the chance to see peak fall colors not once, not twice, but THREE different times – check out the fall foliage forecast from The Poconos Mountains Visitor Bureau, updated weekly, for the most recent peak color date estimates. This region boasts 260 unique hiking trails for a range of skill levels.

Ready to get a true “taste” of the Poconos in fall? Check out The Shawnee Craft Brewery and Taproom! This taproom is dedicated to producing craft brews inspired by the beautiful landscape surrounding the brewery, and even features seasonal brews for every time of year. Complimentary tours are scheduled at the taproom Wednesday through Sunday, with private tours available with advance notice.

Visiting the Poconos in Winter

Family having fun skiing together on winter day.

If you’re visiting the Poconos in winter, expect temperatures in the low 30s. The snowiest time of year in the Poconos is February, so vacationers seeking fresh powder to ski or board would do well to visit during this time.

Just three miles from the historic Shawnee Inn, the Shawnee Mountain Ski Area features 23 trails across 125 skiable acres of winter wonderland so you can hit the slopes no matter your skill level. Winter visitors to the Poconos can save big with Weekend Ski and Stay packages from The Shawnee Inn, offering overnight accommodations and a delicious hot breakfast with your all-day lift ticket at the Shawnee Mountain Ski Area.

No matter the season, the Poconos promises a remarkable experience. Find thrills, relaxation, or a perfect balance of the two at The Shawnee Inn. The best time to visit the Poconos varies depending on what you need from your vacation, but one thing stays the same: The Shawnee Inn is the ideal place to stay. See our Pocono resort rooms and plan your trip today!

Shawnee’s Brian Bergstol, Wins the 25th Haverford Philadelphia PGA Classic

The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort, staff, and the Kirkwood Family congratulate Brian Bergstol, Shawnee’s Assistant Professional, for his most recent accomplishment of winning the 25th Haverford Philadelphia PGA Classic. Everyone at Shawnee is proud of your accomplishments.

Brian has been a member of the Shawnee Family since his time at Bangor High School.  Shawnee was his home course throughout high school. Brian’s accomplishments are highlighted by the success he has had over the years in offering professional instruction to scholastic athletes, many of whom went on to become Pennsylvania State Champions.

Date Posted: 5/31/2023 Courtesy of Philadelphia.PGA.com.

Reigning Philadelphia PGA Professional Champion Brian Bergstol of Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort  in Shawnee on the Delaware, Pennsylvania, won the 25th Haverford Philadelphia PGA Classic at Sunnybrook Golf Club by tapping in a one-foot par on the first sudden death playoff hole to top Jeff Herb, PGA, of Waynesborough Country Club in Paoli, Pennsylvania. Bergstol’s $150,000 winner’s check is the largest first-place prize available from any event across the PGA of America’s 41 nationwide Sections.

Bergstol made four birdies and three bogies en route to a 1-under-par 71 to tie Herb, who finished his round earlier in the afternoon. Bergstol said the course played “super hard,” and went on to remark it was one of the hardest tournament course setups he has played.

Bergstol went on to thank the event’s title partner, The Haverford Trust Company, their founder and director George Connell, Sunnybrook Golf Club and its membership, and staff, for their dedication to the Philadelphia PGA Section and its nearly 900 PGA Professionals.

“I look forward to this event every year,” said Bergstol.

Bergstol has won two of the Section’s biggest tournaments over the course of the nine months, having claimed the 101st Philadelphia PGA Professional Championship at DuPont C.C. in September, and now the 25th Haverford Philadelphia PGA Classic.

Pocono Weddings & Micro-Weddings

Recently Engaged?

Did you recently get engaged? We know that planning a wedding can be tough, and we are here to help! Our experienced wedding coordinator can help you plan every little detail to make your wedding day go over flawlessly. We are your one stop shop, from rehearsal dinners(at our very own brewery), overnight accommodations, spa services, ceremonies, receptions, to wedding after parties, goodbye brunch, or a fun group trip down the  Delaware River – it can all be done at our historic resort. Contact us today to schedule a tour and meet with our wedding professional!

Read below to learn more about our micro-wedding package if you are looking for a smaller ceremony/reception.

Introducing a Micro-wedding

A micro wedding, minimony, tiny wedding, or whatever name you wish to call it, involves the bride and groom, and 25 (or less) of their closest family members and friends. Some couples choose to get married on the date of their choosing, and then have a big celebration on their one year anniversary or a few years later. Others choose just to elope. And still other couples choose to have elaborate small gatherings (spending their wedding budget on flowers, centerpieces or gifts for their attendees).

Planning a Micro-wedding

How do you begin to plan a micro-wedding? To start, choose the right Poconos wedding venues. What appeals to you and your significant other? Have you considered a destination wedding? Next consider if you want to include a wedding party. After that decide on your guests, and don’t be afraid to reconsider allowing plus ones. You want the people that matter most to you as a couple to be a part of your big day, not necessarily your best friends flavor of the week. 🙄

Make sure you find the right officiant, whether it be a member of the clergy, a locally elected official, or your college roommate with the certificate he purchased online when he was bored one night. Next get creative with your wedding elements. Maybe you want simple decor, or maybe you want something extravagant, there is no right or wrong answer. Lastly, don’t be afraid to embrace the services of a professional wedding planner! It’s what they do best, in fact they’ve made a living out of it! They can sit with you and help decide what is best for both bride and groom on their magical day.

A Minimony at Shawnee

The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort has created a package for brides and grooms that wish to go the route of a micro-wedding. A minimony at Shawnee includes an intimate ceremony and dinner reception. The bride and groom get their choice of tablecloth and napkin color, a champagne toast, and plated dinner service with a 2 hour call brand service. The happy couple will receive a complimentary traditional room for their wedding night. And best of all, you get the undivided attention of our professional wedding planner!

To discuss your Pocono’s wedding or micro-wedding at Shawnee email sales@shawneeinn.com or visit our Poconos weddings page.
