The Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort’s Brian Bergstol Qualifies for 2025 PGA Championship

Shawnee on Delaware, PA – May 1, 2025

The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort proudly announces that Assistant Golf Professional Brian Bergstol has secured his place in the 2025 PGA Championship, following a stellar performance at the PGA Professional Championship. Bergstol finished tied for 3rd, earning a coveted spot in the prestigious event to be held at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, from May 12–18, 2025.

Bergstol’s journey to this achievement is marked by a series of notable accomplishments. In 2022, he captured the 101st Philadelphia PGA Professional Championship, demonstrating resilience and skill by overcoming a five-stroke deficit in the final round. His remarkable comeback included a memorable 156-yard hole-out for par on the 10th hole, propelling him to a two-stroke victory.

Continuing his impressive form, Bergstol clinched the 2023 Jack Jolly & Son Championship with a 5-under-par 66, and later that year, he triumphed at the 25th Haverford Philadelphia PGA Classic, securing the largest first-place prize in any PGA of America Section event.

Bergstol’s dedication to the sport extends beyond his personal achievements. As a long-standing member of the Shawnee Inn family, he has been instrumental in mentoring aspiring golfers, many of whom have achieved significant success under his guidance.

This will mark Bergstol’s second appearance in a major championship, having previously qualified for the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, making him the first Shawnee professional since Sam Snead to compete at that level.

The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort celebrates Brian Bergstol’s accomplishments and looks forward to supporting him as he represents our community on golf’s grand stage.

Ladies and the Game of Golf

Editor’s Note: Written in 2014.

At The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort in the Pocono Mountains we take pride in having both men and women’s golf leagues. But, you will find that golf isn’t spread out evenly amongst men and women players everywhere. Let’s talk about golf, “a men’s game… a game your dad played with his buddies, a game your husband tries to fit in once a week with his friends”. Believe it or not, unfortunately that is what 81% of the golf population is. Dads, husbands.. men. Only 19% of all golfers are women according to the National Golf Foundation. Why?

Well, ask yourself. Golf has traditionally been a men’s sport, but in all reality it isn’t. At first perception, it appears that you need brute strength to smash the ball down the fairway, but golfers slowly learn it is more of a finesse game than anything. When you learn about golf a bit more, given you aren’t in it for any type of competition or profession, golf is mostly a social experience. It is, a couple hours out with friends, conversation going the whole time. It is, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and enjoying the outdoors. It is, a cocktail or  beer during your round you grab from the beverage cart that drives around.

What is one thing in all that which doesn’t sound appealing for women. Nothing! Not to mention, it is a sport you can play well into your senior years.

At The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort we offer special golfing rates on Wednesdays for ladies. $39 for an 18-hole round with cart included. And, just up the road sits Great Bear Golf Club, Northeast Pennsylvania’s only Jack Nicklaus course and owned by The Shawnee Inn.  Great Bear Golf Club is one of the nations top women friendly courses! With the hustle and bustle of today’s routine, there’s no better time to take a few hours, head out with some friends and recharge on the course!

To book a tee time at The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort call 570-213-5060 or at Great Bear Golf Club (570) 213-5400. Not convinced yet? How about taking some time on the driving range to practice or sign up for a lesson with our teaching professional. Visit here for golf lesson and instruction information. Best Group Golf Destination

Congratulations! You were chosen to plan your group’s next big golf outing…. Now what? Don’t worry – what seems like an uphill task (bringing a large group of people together for golf, meals, prizes, contests, and other activities) need not be. All that it takes is some advanced planning and the foresight to choose the right partner who is knowledgeable about your group’s needs.

One of the many benefits of choosing The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort for your next group golf outing is that we are experts in both golf and hospitality. We have an established team of planners whose sole duty is to serve and accommodate your group’s needs. It also helps that we have the best 45 holes of golf in the Poconos. Not only do we have the best courses in Northeast Pennsylvania, we are also the only golf destination. Your group has the opportunity to choose from playing our 27-hole Tillinghast-designed island golf course in the Poconos or the esteemed Great Bear Golf Club – the Pocono Mountain’s only Nicklaus-designed course.

Shawnee’s dining facilities excel in serving both a la carte dining and large banquets. Our Executive Chef Tallada’s pedigree is southern golf club cuisine. Prior to joining the team at The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort, Executive Chef Tallada led the culinary team at some of the country’s most prized private clubs. It doesn’t hurt that we also brew our own beer on property at The ShawneeCraft Brewing Company. What’s better than cutting loose in The Gem and Keystone Brewpub or the ShawneeCraft Tap Room after a day of tournament play?

Choosing The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort as your group’s golf destination and partner is the first step in planning a successful golf outing. For more information about group golf opportunities at The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort, click here.

Eager For Spring Golf Opening?

Article by Jeromy Wo, Public Relations—There are few traditions at The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort that are as long lived and symbolic as the building of its famous golf bridge. The arrival of Shawnee’s bridge represents the end of winter and the ushering in of new life, growth and a lot of lofts over the Delaware River onto Shawnee’s island Poconos golf course. Soon there will be pink flowers budding and the sound of bees buzzing to and fro hustling to restore their reserve that were tested by the Pocono Mountain’s uncommonly cold and long winter.

Shawnee’s golf season is just around the corner and will soon be in full swing. On March 31, Shawnee’s Golf and Grounds staff will begin the construction of Shawnee’s famed golf bridge.  We have built our bridge the exact same way for over a century (stay tuned for a time lapse video of the process on Facebook and Youtube).  Soon our bridge will stretch across the calm Delaware River allowing the course’s skilled grounds crew to manicure what winter has left behind. On April 4th, Shawnee’s course is scheduled to be open to the public and the 103rd season of golf will have finally arrived.

The arrival of spring has many of us itching to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. It’s time to dust off the clubs and brush off the rust of a delightfully short winter and prepare for a much welcomed golf season. Start thinking about joining a club. Shawnee’s new member rates are an incredible value.

Cheers to spring and may all of your drives be straight!  For tee times call: 570-213-5060.  For overnight Poconos golf packages click here.
